Save Yourself First

Save Yourself First

Oh! No, my daughters and sons…
How, could I teach you perfection
if I, myself, am not?
How, could I tell you what’s beyond
when I, outside my horizon, am blind?
When I cannot right the wrongs
of my own selections?
I do not even control my thoughts;
I only live with what I daily find.
In the cesspool in which we swim,
I preach not I’m pure and washed.
So, how can I tell you how to clean
your mind and soul after your dive?
I’d be a hypocrite, this much I’m true;
for if I prevented not your jumping in,
how could I save you from being splashed?
The mud is heavy and thick, the ego’s thin;
I must save myself first to save you.
I am just an ego in matter spinning,
thorns on branches of roses,
decaying waste with all its odors.
I’m an imperfect being… of course.
Perfect, only the Creator is:
He sees the end before the beginning;
He sees the effects before their causes.
He knows the hues before mixing colors.
He is the light brought by its source.
I cannot pretend to be like this…
